The PCI Telecom Mezzanine Cards Specification
PICMG 2.15 is
an Extension of the PMC standard IEEE P1386.1.
The PCI Telecom Mezzanine Card (PTMC) is based on the four connector
standard PCI mezzanine card (PMC). The PTMC provides all of the
traditional PMC 32-bit PCI signals on the Pn1 and Pn2 connectors and
specifies the use of industry standard telecom interfaces on Pn3 and
Pn4. The extension of the PMC standard concerns the backplane (rear)
I/O, which is passed through Pn3 and Pn4 connectors. The ground signals
of Pn3 are are connected in a manner, that they do not conflict with
64-bit carrier boards. Four basic configurations are specified for the
I/O layout (see table).
Matching carrier boards, so called PCI telecom carrier cards (PTCC),
must also comply to the PTMC standard. While PTMC modules can support
only one of the four configuration options, the carrier boards (PTCCs)
may support several configurations on one board.

Configuration 1
(PT1MC)
Is a subset of UTOPIA II with 8-bit data path and multi-PHY via Pn3. The
64 pins of Pn4 are allocated as user I/O. Typical applications are line
interfaces and rear I/O access.
Configuration
2 (PT2MC)
Is a subset of the ECTF telephony bus (CT bus, H.100/H.110) TDM
interfaces and an stripped down media-independent interface for Ethernet
PHYs including a management interface on Pn3. The 64 pins of Pn4 are
allocated as user I/O. Typical applications are line interfaces and rear
I/O access. Configuration 3
(PT3MC)
Combines configurations 1 and 2. 6 pins are available for user I/O. The
interface signals in accordance with configuration 2 are available on
Pn3. The interface signals in accordance with configuration 1 are routed
to Pn4. The UTOPIA interface supports 8-bit level 1. Local CT and RMII
buses are also supported. Typical applications are co-processor PMCs for
telecommunications.
Configuration 4
(PT4MC)
Corresponds to configuration 1, but enables higher performance and
features full support of UTOPIA II interfaces and the POS-PHY level 2
interfaces on Pn3 and Pn4. Typical applications are high bandwidth Line
interfaces with rear I/O. Source: PCI Telecom Mezzanine Card Specification PICMG 2.15 Draft 0.6.1, Oct 16, 2000 |
