PCIe 5.0 x16 Transparent / Non-Transparent Host Adapter for high-performance Clusters
The MXH530 and MXH532 PCIe cards are high-performance PCIe 5.0 ×16 host adapters designed for high-speed external PCIe connectivity. Both cards feature a PCIe 5.0 ×16 host interface and four SFF-8614 PCIe 5.0 ×4 ports for external PCIe cable connections. These ports can be flexibly configured as one PCIe ×16 link, two PCIe ×8 links, or four PCIe ×4 links. In combination with PCIe 5.0 copper cables up to 3 m, the adapters enable flexible system topologies ranging from direct host-to-host connections (MXH530) to external PCIe expansion systems (MXH532). With 128 Gbit/s per port and an aggregate bandwidth of up to 512 Gbit/s, both adapters deliver extremely high throughput for data-intensive applications.
The MXH530 utilizes Non-Transparent Bridging (NTB) to enable direct host-to-host communication, allowing efficient coupling of multiple systems without the need for an additional PCIe switch. Supported DMA data transfers provide high throughput while minimizing CPU utilization. Clock isolation ensures stable connections even between platforms with different PCIe root complex implementations and independent clock sources. With an application-to-application latency of less than 500 ns and an application throughput of up to 57.8 GB/s, the adapter is well suited for HPC clusters, real-time systems, and high-performance data processing.
The MXH532, in contrast, uses Transparent PCIe Bridging to extend a host system with remote PCIe devices. Connected devices are detected by the operating system as if they were locally installed in the system. This architecture makes the adapter particularly suitable for PCIe I/O expansion, such as connecting GPU expansion systems, NVMe storage, FPGA accelerators, or specialized I/O subsystems via PCIe cables.
The complete Dolphin eXpressWare software stack, along with driver support for Linux, QNX, RTX, VxWorks, and Windows, enables deployment of the adapters in HPC systems, GPU data-streaming platforms, external PCIe accelerator systems, and embedded applications with demanding requirements for bandwidth, low latency, and system flexibility.
